     Bulls Game !

Soliciting interest in getting a group of fine Rotarians together for a Bulls game.  We could save the cost of bus fare by using several vans, with everyone kicking in for the gas.  Tickets:  a very reasonable $8.00.  Anyone interested, contact Denis O’Brien @ denisrobrien@embarqmail.com with suggested dates.  If enough interest, Denis will arrange to get tickets.

Home Games (Monday through Friday):  Friday 8/8, Monday 8/11, Wednesday 8/13, Thursday 8/14, Monday 8/25, Tuesday 8/26, and Friday 8/29.  It looks like the Bulls will make the playoffs, unless they blow their current 8-game lead, so they would be playing sometime during the first week of September after Labor Day.   Again, let Denis know.

Quarterly Statements:

Do you have a discrepancy with your quarterly statement?

If so, please bring a copy of the statement to the weekly
meeting and document on the statement what you think might
be the problem.  If there are no problems, just bring your check!!!
DO NOT send in a check with the amount you think that you owe,
since if you do not make the full payment as stated on your
statement, it makes it difficult to reconcile the books.

Please let Pete or Denis know if you have any problems.

Council on Legislation

Monica Wanat - Rotary International Council Services

Since we are now in the first quarter of Rotary’s 2008-09 year, there are less than 6 months to submit proposed legislation for the 2010 Council on Legislation.  RI must receive proposed legislation, along with its certification form signed by the district governor, no later than December 31, 2008.

For districts holding a conference between now and December, legislation can still be proposed or endorsed at a district conference.  Districts that do not have a district conference before the deadline should know that, where time does not allow for legislation to be submitted to a district conference, a ballot-by-mail may be conducted.

Additional information about and useful tools for the 2010 Council have been posted on the Council on Legislation section of the RI website:  (www.rotary.org).

Volunteer Opportunities
FirstHealth Hospice & Palliative Care

You can make a difference . . . In two to four hours a week, you can provide a world of support for someone with a life-limiting illness.  FirstHealth of the Carolinas, Hospice provides pain and symptom management, psychosocial and spiritual support, and grief counseling for patients and their families.

Volunteer opportunities for responsible, mature individuals seeking to support their community include:  companionship, reading to a patient, running errands/shopping, transporting to and from appointments, and providing emotional support.  You may have specific interests or skills you would like to utilize in volunteerism.

Share your time and your talent with those who need it most.  Training is provided and flexible schedules are available.  Call:  910-715-6000
